The Art of Scrapbooking

Share

Scrapbooking can be an amazing way to spend some time fruitfully and have lots of fun, while doing it. Most kids would love to do this since there are hardly any rules – it can look beautiful, artistic or abstract. And what’s better, it is the perfect way to collect all (or most of) your memories and put them together….all in one place!

Things you will need to get started on your scrapbooking project:

1. An album or a notepad
2. Scissors
3. Glue
4. Card paper, patterned paper – different styles and textures
5. Pens/crayons/colour pencils/ glitter
6. Embellishments
8. Photos, momentos, any piece that hols a special place in your heart and you want to preserve it for posterity
9. A bucket full of ideas
10 And lots of patience, of course!

Getting Started:

Arrange your pictures either from the newest to the oldest or in random order if you prefer and start sticking them onto your album. A handwritten note next to it, describing the photograph and the story behind it, makes it personal and will bring a smile to your face, when you view it a few years down the line. You can choose to decorate each and every page or leave it plain and simple. You can use cut outs of different shapes, from different patterns of paper to enhance the existing page and make it look prettier.

Add quotes and sayings to match the pictures or events to make it more meaningful. Try out different layouts on different pages so it doesn’t look uniform or you can even stick to one style to keep it symmetrical. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to do it.
You can pursue it like a hobby or be an avid scrapbooker or even a weekend one. The idea is to have fun when doing it and to relax, so just do what you feel like.

  1. Being a mother of a five year old and a 7 year old I always look for ways to keep my little ones busy. I knew that scrapbooking can keep kids happily engaged, but was not sure whether I will be able to assist my kids to create scrapbooks. After reading this post, I’ll surely do a lot of scrapbooking with my babies this summer.

  2. I organize workshops for kids every summer. This year, I have plans of organizing a scrapbooking competition for the kids and their parents. I loved reading this post on scrapbooking and will surely ask parents of all the kids coming to my workshop to read it.
